Marissa Wong, grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia studying dance under Jocelyn Wozencroft and Sarah Brewer-Clowes. Upon early graduation, she left Canada to receive further training at Alonzo King LINES Ballet and Ballet Austin. While in San Francisco, she explored improvisational techniques through the guidance of Christian Burns and Kara Davis, and had the opportunity to perform works by Iratxe Ansa, Uri Sands, Sandrine Cassini, and Gregory Dawson. She has choreographed and premiered works in Ottawa, San Francisco, and at Montreal’s FRINGE festival, and has attended choreographic residencies around North America. Most recently she became co-director of TWObigsteps collective where she continues to create work. With a strong foundation in Ballet, Contemporary and Improvisational movement, as well as a background in Gaga and Gyrontonic, Marissa’s teaching delves into a connection of both the body and mind. She explores the kinetics and barriers that can be broken within movement, as well as relationships to oneself and the space around it. Through constant observation and expanding, Marissa hopes to share the passion and curiosity that can be found through dance, both in and out of the studio.
