Every summer, Spiral Dance hosts three summer dance camps for students of various ages and skill levels. This is a chance for dedicated students of dance to improve their skills as well as a fun, physical activity for anyone interested in learning dance.

July

P.I.T. (Princess in Training)
3-4 yrs. July 6 - 10 & July 13 - 17
Time: 9:00-10:30 am
Price: $84.00 includes GST.
Instructor: Christa Fosolan

Description: Activities including decorating Princess Crowns, Coloring Favorite Disney Princess Character & Dance Positions, etc.
What to Wear: Bodysuit, tights, and gymnastic slippers.
Please bring a juice box for refreshment.

Jazz Power
5-7 yrs July 13 - 17
Time 10:45 am - 12:15 pm
Price: $84.00
Instructor: Christa Fosolan
Description: Fun lively music drives this very upbeat class. The students will get an introduction to the basic steps of jazz. A routine will be learned during the week and presented to family at weeks end.
What to wear: fitted tank , lycra short or capris, black gymnastic slippers or black jazz shoes.

Musical Theatre
7-13 yrs August 17 - 21
(no experience necessary)
Time 10 am - 12 noon
Price: $94.50
Instructor: Kate Jamieson
Description: Musical Theatre is a class where dancing, singing and acting are combined. The class will consist of vocal and dance warm-up, character building, and choreography towards a piece that will be showcased at the end of the week.

Parents welcome for the last 15 minutes of Friday class.

What to wear: Dance pants/capris, fitted tank or t-shirt, jazz shoes.

Beginner 12:00 - 1:30

Level I - III 1:45 - 3:15
Must be able to do summersaults, cartwheels, handstands, round offs, back bends, 2 point balance (Frog stand, 3 point teddy bear stand)
What to wear: Body suit, lycra shorts, no shoes.

Junior/Intermediate Intensives
Junior 7 - 10 yrs & Intermediate 11 - 14 years
August 24 - 28
(2-5 yrs competitive experience necessary)
classes will run 2 levels
Time: 9:30 - 2:30

Description: Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary/lyrical, Musical Theatre

Kate and Dana will lead the dancers through the latest in Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary/lyrical, and Musical Theatre.

FACULTY

Kate Jamieson

Dancing since the age of three in her native Australia, Kate has trained and competed in Modern Jazz, Contemporary, Tap Dance, RAD and Borrovanski Classical Ballet. Through her early years Kate performed with 'Steps Youth Dance Company' and local Musical Theatre Companies where her passion for singing really shined. By 18, Kate was managing an independent dance school, teaching various disciplines. She has also put students through their tertiary dance exams at numerous secondary high schools specializing in Contemporary, Modern Jazz and Hip Hop. Kate also managed and performed lead vocals in a hit 80's cover band called 'Lady Penelope' who performed along side Leo Sayer, Shannon Noll (Australian Idol Winner) and Eros Ramazzotti (Italian Pop Idol).


Karl McPherson

Karl has been a professional gymnastic coach and program director for over 20 years. He provides private coaching to competitive body builders, fitness and dance specialist. His expertise is in teaching all levels of gymnastics/acrobatics from Pre-K to adult. His accomplishments in coaching and elite athletic development are many. We are so excited to have Karl share his expertise with our dancers.


Dana Madder

Dana has travelled the world as a dancer, teacher and Ambassador for Canada. She has a vast background in Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Street Jazz/Hip Hop and Musical Theatre. Some of her credits include, So You Think You Can Dance Canada Finalist Season 1 & 2, The Tina Turner "Journey" Musical, "Center Stage 2", Sony Screen Gems "Impulse", CMT Music Video with Sara Lynn, NBA Vancouver Grizzlies Dance Team, Gemini Awards, 2010 Olympic Bid Celebration. Recently Dana performed in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Opening Ceremonies as part of the Professional Ballet ensemble dancing with Sarah McLachlan. She lives to share her love for dance with others and hopes to inspire all people to live their dreams.


Christa Fosolan

Christa is proud to be apart of the Spiral Dance Co. faculty for over 10 years now. Working with children in the field of dance is her true passion. She specializes in the ages 3-5 yrs and has just recently received her early Childhood Education Diploma. Coupled with the numerous courses in the field of dance education she incorporates the importance of music and dance for brain development, and for enhancing conceptual and cognitive learning she includes guided creative movement improvisation. ChristaÕs has a special gift with young dancers and is excited to share her knowledge with the Summer Camp attendees.
