Every summer, Spiral Dance hosts three summer dance camps for students of various ages and skill levels. This is a chance for dedicated students of dance to improve their skills as well as a fun, physical activity for anyone interested in learning
dance.

JULY
P.I.T. "Princess in Training": ages 3-4 yrs.
July 5-9 & 12-16 Mon. - Fri. 9:00-10:30

Description: Activities including decorating Princess Crowns, Coloring
Favorite Disney Princess Character & Dance Positions, etc.
What to Wear: Bodysuit, tights, and gymnastic slippers.

Jazz Power: ages 5-7 yrs
July 5-9 Mon. - Fri. 10:45-12:15

Description: Fun lively music drives this very upbeat class. The students
will get an introduction to the basic steps of jazz. A routine will be
learned during the week and presented to family at weeks end.
What to wear: fitted tank, lycra short or capris, black gymnastic slippers
or black jazz shoes.
ACRO: Beginner- Level II ages 6 yrs. & up
July 5-9 Mon.-Fri. 11:00-12:00

Will learn and improve the following skills: summersaults, cartwheels, handstands, round off's, back bends, 2 point balance (frog stand, 3 point teddy bear stand)

Must be able to do: cartwheels, round offs, front and back walk over's. Will work on one-handed cartwheels, handsprings, front walk over's and one-handed walk over's, aerials, etc.

"Must have 2-6 years experience. Classes will run in 2 levels."

FACULTY
Jessica DeMarzo
Jessica began dancing at the age of six and has trained with many well known choreographers both local and abroad. Jessica has trained in Ballet (RAD), Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary/Modern, Musical Theatre, Tap and Hip Hop. She graduated from the Langley Fine Arts School in 2008 where she studied both dance and theatre. As a young dancer she won a number of awards and bursaries from various competitions and festivals throughout the Lower Mainland. She has also performed at a number of honours performances. Jessica has danced in the opening of the B.C. Country Music Awards (2005); she has also performed in Disneyland and has movie credits which include John Tucker Must Die (2006). In 2008 she passed her RAD Grade 8 award exam with distinction and plans to complete her ballet teaching certification through the Royal Academy of Dance. As a young teen, Jessica began choreographing solo`s and duo`s for herself as well as other students, this is when she first realized her love of teaching. Jessica has taught for various studios throughout the Lower Mainland and her choreography has won awards and high scores at local competitions and festivals.
Jessica believes that with hard work, determination and passion for dancing there are no limits to what one can achieve!

Jacqui Querin Fownes
Jacqui is a fully certified yoga teacher. She attained yoga teaching
certification from Sandra Sammartino in 2000, in Anatomy of Yoga in
2002, Teaching Yoga to Persons with Arthritis in 2000 and Yoga for
Children in 2006. She has an extensive background in dance, having
been educated at Canadian Dance World, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the
Goh Ballet Academy and Cameron Academy of Classical Dance. She has
been a registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance since 1995.
She has over 20 years teaching experience, and is a passionate,
caring and gifted teacher. She is thrilled to share her specialized
yoga program, which was specifically designed for dancers. Learn to
create and maintain health and balance in your body.

Karl McPherson
Karl has been a professional gymnastic coach and program director for over 20 years. He provides private coaching to competitive body builders, fitness and dance specialist. His expertise is in teaching all levels of gymnastics/acrobatics from Pre-K to adult. His accomplishments in coaching and elite athletic development are many.
We are so excited to have Karl share his expertise with our dancers.

Dana Madder
Dana has travelled the world as a dancer, teacher and Ambassador for Canada. She has a vast background in Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Street Jazz/Hip Hop and Musical Theatre. Some of her credits include, So You Think You Can Dance Canada Finalist Season 1 & 2, The Tina Turner "Journey" Musical, "Center Stage 2", Sony Screen Gems "Impulse", CMT Music Video with Sara Lynn, NBA Vancouver Grizzlies Dance Team, Gemini Awards, 2010 Olympic Bid Celebration. Recently Dana performed in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Opening Ceremonies as part of the Professional Ballet ensemble dancing with Sarah McLachlan. She lives to share her love for dance with others and hopes to inspire all people to live their dreams.

Christa Fosolan
Christa is proud to be apart of the Spiral Dance Co. faculty for over 10 years now. Working with children in the field of dance is her true passion. She specializes in the ages 3-5 yrs and has just recently received her early Childhood Education Diploma. Coupled with the numerous courses in the field of dance education she incorporates the importance of music and dance for brain development, and for enhancing conceptual and cognitive learning she includes guided creative movement improvisation.
Christa's has a special gift with young dancers and is excited to share her knowledge with the Summer Camp attendees.
