2021 / 2022 Recreational classes

Our Recreational Programs offer classes from 3 years to adult, and from beginner to advanced.

Parent and Tot class is an introductory dance class where the parent and toddler get to move and groove together! Explore movements through music, stories and lots of giggles. Dancing with your child in a toddler dance class creates a safe space where they can explore how to make friends with other children their own age. It can also help introduce your child to new people, sights and sounds key to helping them develop healthy social skills, all while engaging and having fun with YOU!.

Monday  10:30 - 11:15

Spiral Starters are an introductory dance class containing ballet and creative movement. Young dancers will learn the basic steps while learning how to follow direction and imitate movement in a positive environment. Engaging music is used to get these little starters inspired to dance. The use of props such as stuffies and hula hoops, enables the young dancers to use their imagination, creativity and, most of all, have fun! Designed for your little dancer ready to start leaving mom and dad and learning independently. Also for young 3 year old dancers who have not participated in dance before.

Ballet is the foundation of all dance training. The discipline, technique and strength acquired in ballet are utilized in all forms of dance. At Spiral Dance we follow the R.A.D. ( Royal Academy of Dance) method. Full examination are offered at Spiral Dance. Our classes for ballet are offered from the pre-school age up to our senior levels. In Pre-Primary and Primary programs a love of dance is fostered for beginner dancers with a strong emphasis on musicality, motor skill development, balance, self-expression and creativity. We encourage all dancers who are serious about dance to take part in at least 1 ballet class per week.

This is a very upbeat, high-energy class that uses pop music favourites from the 1970’s to present. Sharp, direct, funky, and strong is the best way to describe this movement style. A vigorous warm-up with lots of isometrics, isolations, and stretching starts this class rolling. Fundamental dance technique improves alignment, co-ordination, and strength to accomplish the dance steps learned across the floor and in the combinations. Various turns and jumps are taught as a part of the jazz curriculum.

I’ve got rhythm! Tap requires the use of fine motor skills in the feet, plus co-ordination and rhythm. Understanding of music beats and how they break down from whole notes to half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes is an integral part of the learning process in tap. The fun challenge is getting your feet to relate to these musical dynamics while learning the steps. Before you know it, your feet will be the musical accompaniment. Due to the extreme dexterity required to successfully do tap we do not start students until they are 6 years old.

This style of dance has its roots based in street break dancing. It incorporates lots of footwork and change of directions, plus body isolations including locking and popping techniques. It is definitely all about personal style. The more bounce and sway, the better you can get the groove. It is fun, athletic, and a great cardio work out. Pop R & B and Hip-Hop music is used in the class. Our teachers are very careful to screen their music for appropriate language. Due to the more developmentally mature dance steps involved we start students in hip hop no younger than 6 years old.
