JAZZ

This is a very upbeat, high-energy class that uses pop music favourites from the 1970’s to present. Sharp, direct, funky, and strong is the best way to describe this movement style. A vigorous warm-up with lots of isometrics, isolations, and stretching starts this class rolling. Fundamental dance technique improves alignment, co-ordination, and strength to accomplish the dance steps learned across the floor and in the combinations. Various turns and jumps are taught as a part of the jazz curriculum.

Class Attire: Jazz shoes or foot undies, stretch lycra pants or shorts with a body suit or tank top.  Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail.

TAP

I’ve got rhythm! Tap requires the use of fine motor skills in the feet, plus co-ordination and rhythm. Understanding of music beats and how they break down from whole notes to half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes is an integral part of the learning process in tap. The fun challenge is getting your feet to relate to these musical dynamics while learning the steps. Before you know it, your feet will be the musical accompaniment.

HIP HOP

This style of dance has its roots based in street break dancing. It incorporates lots of footwork and change of directions, plus body isolations including locking and popping techniques. It is definitely all about personal style. The more bounce and sway, the better you can get the groove. It is fun, athletic, and a great cardio work out. Pop R & B and Hip-Hop music is used in the class. Our teachers are very careful to screen their music for appropriate language.
